Frequent Fliers: Confessions of the Point Obsessed
Monday, March 8, 2010 at 06:30PM Here's an interesting video about a small group of people obsessed with accruing frequent flier points. My opinion is that it goes WAY beyond obsession, these people are addicts. The long haired fellow running the meeting, Tom Kraetleur, used to be a regular guest of mine one of my CNN shows talking about discount flying. He's still at it.
"One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur" - A Rocking Trippy Documentary
Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 10:10PM How do you make a movie about Jack Kerouac's writing appeal to a whole new generation? Take some of the best rock and rollers from this generation and have them create a music track for the film. That's what has kept this two year old film from being released, but the wait is well worth it when you see the wild imagery and you hear it's fitting pairing with the great tracks created with the collaboration of Benjamin Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie and Jay Farrar from Son Volt. As the 40th anniversary of Jack Kerouac's death fast approaches, this film may bring a whole new awareness to Kerouac's trippy writing. The risk is that it may promote a whole lot of drug taking to make this film even stranger than it already is. What makes this film even more appealing to me is that it was edited by my good friend Cob Carlson, a true music afficanado, and one fine editor.
NO Impact Man + woman. A no impact documentary.
Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 09:33PM Is it possible to live in the city of bright lights and late nights (NYC) while having no environmental impact on the planet? This year-long experiment is what the new documentary No Impact Man is all about. This is the story of the Beaven family's odyssey. Michele Conlin was my classmate at Columbia Journalism School and a colleague at CNN Financial News. Today she's a columnist for Business Week and a great mom. Here's her take on the No Impact Project which her husband Colin cooked up - Michele C on going No Impact.
The movie is beautifully shot, and thoughtfully crafted by filmmaker Laura Gabbert.
